SYLLABUS
Instructor: Ms. Mary Kioshi
Course Description: Art is a two semester course that allows for artistic growth encompassing, appreciation, analysis, individual and group expression, through applied skills, study of art theory and history. These objectives will be reached through the study of design elements such as: line, shape/form, perspective, proportion, light, shade, texture, color, local and global artists and artwork, from classical to modern art movements and student based research. Through these students, students will be equipped to develop art exercises, projects, contest entries, presentations, research and critical analysis papers, using various mediums that demonstrate great understanding through group and individual expression and articulation.
Course Rationale: Through the study of art theory and history the students will develop a greater knowledge of art and what that encompasses, giving them a self awareness and confidence that will allow them to develop their artistic abilities to the fullest. Studying artists and artwork of varied styles and eras will hopefully generate each student's awareness as individuals in various communities that range from the class to the world and the roles they can and do play in them. Fostering these levels of awareness and abilities by providing means in which to present these newly developed skills will hopefully create a mind that perceives the world through more receptive perceptive eyes.
